Recently I sent a letter to an old friend that I use to have from when I lived in Texas. He has fallen away from the church little by little so I sent him this a little while ago. I cannot think of any way to express my testimony more beautifully then this. Please do not look down on me for my lack of being able to communicate what I am feeling. Try to just feel the spirit that I tried to communicate to him.
Hey man whats been happening? hows college? before I go on my mish im wanting to go down there so we should chill for a while. Play hoops or something like we used to.
I was thinking the other day when i lived in Texas you were my best friend man. I don't want to sound like a smuck, but i was thinking the other day about how you told me that you weren't going on your mission. i don't know you well now but i used to so im telling you as a friend you need to go man. in the last few years i have screwed up a lot, and i have had to repent a lot because of that. but through all of that crap i've grown closer to the Lord. He lives man. I have had a personal witness from him. And I promise you in the name of Jesus Christ that if you read the book of mormon sincerly, even if you do not believe at first, if you pray about it you can know as i do that this is God's work. It might not come in a minute, a day, or even a week (it didn't for me), but if you sincerly want to know Heavenly Father will manifest the truth of it unto you. Joseph Smith is a prophet of God. I know I cannot pretend to understand the way people might look down on you for even belonging to this church down there at blinn. I do not know. i am going to a mormon college in a mormon community. Yet if you just try this stuff out everything will work out fine. The book of mormon is real man. We have a living prophet today who recieves direct communication from God himself. Repentence is real i have experienced it in my life on MANY occasions. Families are forever if we will just obey Gods commands and get married in the temple.
I remember hearing a scripture that i'd like to share with you. It is in Doctine & Covenents section 76:
"And now after the many testimonies which have been given of Him this is the testimony last of all which we give of Him that He lives. For we saw Him even on the right hand of God and we heard the voice bearing record that He is the only begotten of the Father that by Him and through Him and of Him the worlds are and were created. And the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God."
I have not seen God yet I know that he lives. Through our living prophet President Monson God has told all worthy young men to go on missions. I promise you in the name of Jesus Christ that if you obey the Lord in this that it will forever change your life. You will be able to be truly happy and successfull. I hope i don't offend you and that we can still be friends no matter what. But i'm telling you this as a friend man this is so much more important. I'll have to call you up when im down there later.
